In an amazing display of courage, my auntie, who is deathly afraid of dogs, agreed to stand as still as possible as my friend’s large labrador retriever sat next to her. Next- she was to touch the dog, any part.
We needed to force her hand down onto the dog’s body, and she resisted greatly and was even trembling. Her other hand was piercing my arm in abject fear … but after a few seconds, started to relax, and then after a few more, let go altogether.
“Eh … she’s quite nice and soft.”
“Yep!”
And so, 50 over years of dog phobia was cured in less than a few minutes.
Today, we are just as amazed when she comes over, not only brave enough to face the dog, but actually sitting down on the floor, talking and petting it! Serious. True Story!
