Singaporean Tai-tais

It’s time the world knows what we do with our lives!

Tai tai is a term (sometimes meant in a derogatory manner by those who are not worthy) used originally in Hong Kong referring to the ’supreme wife’.  The very wealthy man is called a Taipan and usually has several wives (and mistresses).   Of course, now the term simply means a wealthy man’s wife who does not need to work for money and spends her days shopping, gossiping, and playing mahjong.
